A Safe Space to be your full self

Evidence-based psychotherapy to help you process trauma, distressing memories and difficult life experiences.

Whether you're experiencing the effects of a single traumatic event, childhood experiences that continue affecting you today, or simply find yourself stuck in patterns that no longer make sense, EMDR therapy offers a structured, evidence-based approach to helping your brain process what it has been unable to leave behind.

As an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner and BACP Accredited Counsellor, I provide online EMDR therapy throughout the UK. My approach combines clinical expertise with compassion, ensuring therapy progresses at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for you.

If you're wondering whether EMDR could help, I invite you to arrange a complimentary 15-minute discovery call. It's an opportunity to discuss what has brought you here, ask any questions you may have and decide whether EMDR feels like the right approach for you.

Why EMDR?

Many people come to EMDR after already doing valuable therapeutic work.

They may have developed a deeper understanding of themselves, gained important insights and made sense of experiences that once felt confusing.

Yet despite that understanding, the emotional intensity often remains. Certain situations still trigger anxiety, shame, fear or other overwhelming emotions. The body continues responding as though the past is still happening, even when the rational mind knows it isn't.

This is where EMDR can offer something different.

Rather than helping you gain more insight, EMDR helps the brain process experiences that have remained emotionally unresolved. As those memories are processed, they often lose their emotional intensity. You don't forget what happened, but the past no longer feels as though it continues intruding into the present.

One of the reasons I value EMDR so highly is seeing people move beyond insight alone towards experiencing a genuine reduction in the emotional impact of the past. Rather than simply understanding why they struggle, many begin noticing that distressing memories, triggers and negative beliefs no longer have the same influence over how they feel, respond and live their lives today.

What Can EMDR Help With?

People seek EMDR for many different reasons, but a common thread often runs through them: experiences from the past continue affecting life in the present.

You may feel stuck despite understanding why. You might find yourself caught in recurring fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses, struggling with anxiety, relationship difficulties or workplace stress, even though part of you knows the situation doesn't fully explain the intensity of your reaction.

EMDR may be helpful if you're experiencing:

  • Feeling stuck despite insight.
  • Fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses.
  • Anxiety, stress or emotional overwhelm.
  • Relationship patterns where the past continues influencing the present.
  • Workplace or performance issues where confidence or past experiences are getting in the way.
  • Distressing memories or trauma that continue carrying emotional weight.

The aim of EMDR isn't to erase the past. It's to help process experiences that remain emotionally unresolved, so they no longer continue shaping how you think, feel and respond today.

Choosing the Right EMDR Therapist

Choosing an EMDR therapist is an important decision. There are many skilled EMDR therapists, and finding someone you trust, feel safe with and have confidence in is an important part of the therapeutic process.

People are often looking for more than technical competence. They're looking for someone who can understand their experiences, guide them safely through the process and help them achieve the goals that brought them to therapy.

For me, successful EMDR isn't simply about completing a protocol. It's about helping people experience a meaningful change in the way they relate to memories that have continued affecting them in the present. As processing takes place, many people notice changes not only in how they think about those experiences, but also in how they respond emotionally and within their body. Memories that once felt overwhelming often become something they can remember without the same emotional or physiological impact.

My aim is always to provide EMDR that is thoughtful, collaborative and tailored to the individual, helping you move towards the goals that matter most to you.

Finding the Right Place to Begin

Every person's history is unique. Some people come with one clearly defined traumatic event, whilst others bring years of experiences that continue affecting how they think, feel and respond today.

Effective EMDR isn't about processing every difficult memory you've ever experienced. It's about identifying the thread that runs through the key memories connected to the difficulties you want to change. By understanding that thread, we can identify the experiences most likely to create meaningful change in the present.

That doesn't mean spending endless sessions exploring the past before beginning EMDR. We take the time needed to develop a clear understanding of what is maintaining the difficulties you're experiencing today, whilst recognising that many people have practical considerations such as time, finances or specific goals they hope to achieve. Finding the right balance is an important part of the process.

The aim is to work thoughtfully and collaboratively, helping you make the best use of the therapy you choose to undertake.

Starting Where You Are

Beginning EMDR can feel like a big step. It's natural to wonder where to start or worry about whether you'll do EMDR "properly."

The good news is that you don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. You don't need to know how EMDR works or how to prepare for it. My role is to guide you through the process, answer your questions and ensure you understand what's happening and why at every stage.

EMDR is a collaborative process. We'll work together at a pace that feels appropriate for you, giving any questions, uncertainties or concerns the time and attention they deserve. There is no expectation to move faster than feels right.

The first step is simply a conversation. Together, we'll explore what has brought you to therapy, what you'd like to change and whether EMDR is the right approach for your goals.

Moving Forward

Ultimately, my hope is that EMDR helps you experience more than simply a reduction in symptoms.

I hope you feel lighter, more connected to yourself and no longer held back by experiences that have continued influencing your life in the present. Through processing the past, many people develop a deeper understanding of themselves, their history and the experiences that have shaped them.

The past doesn't disappear, nor should it. Instead, it becomes part of your story rather than something that continues to dictate how you think, feel and respond today.

When that happens, people often find they are able to move forward with greater freedom, greater self-understanding and a stronger connection to who they are and the life they want to live.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EMDR therapy?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is an evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people process distressing memories and experiences that continue affecting them in the present.

Rather than simply talking about what happened, EMDR helps the brain process memories that have remained emotionally unresolved, so they no longer carry the same intensity.

Is EMDR therapy effective?

EMDR is an evidence-based psychotherapy and is recommended by NICE for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Its suitability depends on the person, their history and what they want help with. During an initial consultation, we can explore whether EMDR feels like an appropriate approach for your goals.

Can EMDR be delivered online?

Yes. EMDR can be delivered online and many people find online EMDR therapy works well for them.

Online sessions can make therapy more accessible and allow you to work from an environment where you already feel more comfortable and regulated.

How many EMDR sessions will I need?

This depends on what has brought you to therapy, your goals, your history and the time or resources available to you.

Some people come with a single issue they want to process. Others are working with more complex or long-standing difficulties. We discuss this together and review progress as therapy develops.

Will I have to talk about everything that happened?

No. EMDR does not require you to describe every detail of a distressing memory.

We need enough understanding to work safely and effectively, but the focus is not on repeatedly retelling the story. The focus is on helping your brain process the memory so it no longer carries the same emotional charge.

What if I become overwhelmed during EMDR?

EMDR should not feel like something being done to you without your control.

We work collaboratively, at a pace that feels appropriate, and your questions or concerns are always given space. Part of my role is to help you stay within a range where processing is possible without overwhelming your nervous system.

Can EMDR help with experiences from many years ago?

Yes. EMDR can help with experiences from the recent or distant past when they continue affecting you in the present.

The important question is not only when something happened, but whether it still influences how you think, feel, respond or relate today.

Is EMDR suitable for autistic or ADHD adults?

Yes, EMDR can be suitable for autistic and ADHD adults when it is adapted around the individual.

This may include adjusting the pace, making eye contact optional, adapting for sensory differences, working with alexithymia or interoceptive differences, and ensuring therapy fits the person rather than expecting the person to fit the therapy.
