Why EMDR?
Many people come to EMDR after already doing valuable therapeutic work.
They may have developed a deeper understanding of themselves, gained important insights and made sense of experiences that once felt confusing.
Yet despite that understanding, the emotional intensity often remains. Certain situations still trigger anxiety, shame, fear or other overwhelming emotions. The body continues responding as though the past is still happening, even when the rational mind knows it isn't.
This is where EMDR can offer something different.
Rather than helping you gain more insight, EMDR helps the brain process experiences that have remained emotionally unresolved. As those memories are processed, they often lose their emotional intensity. You don't forget what happened, but the past no longer feels as though it continues intruding into the present.

Finding the right balance is an important part of the process.
The aim is to work thoughtfully and collaboratively, helping you make the best use of the therapy you choose to undertake.

Beginning EMDR can feel like a big step. It's natural to wonder where to start or worry about whether you'll do EMDR "properly."
The good news is that you don't need to have everything figured out before you begin. You don't need to know how EMDR works or how to prepare for it. My role is to guide you through the process, answer your questions and ensure you understand what's happening and why at every stage.
EMDR is a collaborative process. We'll work together at a pace that feels appropriate for you, giving any questions, uncertainties or concerns the time and attention they deserve. There is no expectation to move faster than feels right.
